Information regarding the CARD ACT of 2009
On May 22, 2009, the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure
Act of 2009 (CARD ACT) was signed into law. The law requires creditors to notify
consumers 21 days in advance of any payment due date for credit card or open-end
loan accounts.
Impact to San Mateo Credit Union Members
In response to this legislation, as well as in our continuing effort to
improve service to members, San Mateo Credit Union began in October changing the
due dates of all open-end loans (credit card accounts, lines of credit) to the
28th day of each month. This change may provide a longer notification period for
your payment, and as such may give you some additional options when planning
your payments:
- You may choose to continue making payments by your current due date, which
will occur prior to the 28th day of each month.
- You may choose to retain currently scheduled automatic payments or
automatic transfers, which should occur prior to the 28th day of each month.
- You may also change or align your payment with your new date, which is the
28th day of each month.
